    Mar 20.10 by @heymally

“Black coffee, no creamer – smooth on its way in, but the after effect…”

That is how Seattle-based MC and producer D.Black describes his own brand of hip hop – sick rhymes spun in a smooth voice over heavy drum beats that leave you wanting to hear so much more. D., whose parents were members of the pioneering Seattle Emerald Street Boys and Emerald Street Girls, began recording at age 13. His 2009 debut album Ali’Yah was called not only one of the most outstanding debuts but also one of the most outstanding discs of the year, and D.’s music has been featured on MTVU’s Freshman 5, as well as in a number of mixtapes including Complex Magazine’s Leaders of the New Cool.

We atSXSW 2010 in Austin where he’s been putting in his first year of performances at the festival – check out what he had to tell us above!

Copped Ali’yah on Amazon. It’s pure heat, and some of the best music from anywhere.
